WAQARA APPAREL

Handala Hoodie

$70

Handala is a powerful symbol of Palestinian identity and resistance, created by the late cartoonist Naji al-Ali. Depicted as a young boy who is the same age as Naji when he was forced to move during the Nakba of 1948, Handala embodies the struggles and aspirations of the Palestinian people. He is often shown facing away from the viewer, representing a longing for return and a connection to his homeland. It is said that Handala will not turn and show his face until Palestine is free.

Our design features a Palestine flag on his elbow patch, with Handala himself in handcuffs. This is to signify the current oppression and genocide occurring in Palestine. The front of the heavyweight tee has an old key, which acts as a double symbolism. Not only does it act as a symbol of hope to unlock the handcuffs on Handala, but it also represents keys to the old homes that many displaced Palestinians still hold to this day. It is surrounded by the words "We will return to Palestine," as a testament to the inevitable truth.
